The Bellevue-Stratford first opened its doors in 1904 and quickly built a reputation as a lively and convivial gathering place. Designed in the French Renaissance style, it was described at the time as the most luxurious hotel in the nation—possibly the world.

20th Century
The Bellevue played host to presidents, emperors, and visiting European royalty over the first half of the 20th century. Gradually though, the hotel fell into disrepair. In 1977, the building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

In 2021, The Bellevue underwent an extensive restoration, reopening in 2024 as a multifaceted destination and rooted downtown fixture. Today, we proudly welcome a new generation of travelers and revelers as we reaffirm our storied heritage as The Grand Dame of Broad Street.
